What am I watching? {Fall TV}

Princesses, Superheroes, Demon hunters, Doctors and Detectives... Things couldn't get much better for me this Fall TV season!

With the exception of a few shows, the networks had the decency to wait until AFTER my birthday to start the new episodes - it's kind of like my present from them.

Here's a breakdown of my Fall TV schedule.

Must Watch

My "Must Watch" shows are the returning shows that I can't wait for each week and watch immediately - usually live (or at least 15 minutes into them so I can skip commercials).
  • Once Upon a Time: Describing an episode of this show sounds like the beginning of a bad joke: "Prince Charming, Captain Hook, Rumpelstiltskin and the Evil Queen walk into a bar..."  I love every second of it.  They change it up impressively each season and I can't wait to see where they take us with the Frozen story line!
  • Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D: Coulson!  Need I say more?  There is so much I love about this show... They tied into Winter Soldier (Captain America 2) BRILLIANTLY.  It's a Joss Whedon show.  I'm in love.
  • Supernatural: Those Winchesters stole my heart.
  • Arrow: I'm constantly surprised by how much I love this show.  It's fun and exciting. Oliver's hot and awesome.  The girls on it aren't actually lame.
  • Grimm: I've been trying to fill the hole that Buffy left when she went off the air and this show comes very close - the Scooby gang, the creatures, even the Grimm lore is vaguely Slayer reminiscent.  It is produced by former Buffyverse alum, so there's really no surprise.
  • Doctor Who: I'm confused for approximately 55 minutes of every Doctor Who episode and then the Doctor explains everything and I usually cry.  It's actually a very difficult watching experience and I don't care - when a new Doctor Who is on, you watch the new Doctor Who. It's a rule.

Can't Wait to See

My "Can't Wait to See" shows are the select few new shows that I'm dying to see.  I'll watch these live or DVR them.
  • Gotham: BATMAN!  C'mon.  Even if he's in it for 5 minutes (as a VERY young Bruce Wayne), it takes place in Batman's world.  And I've always liked Commissioner Gordon - Ben Mackenzie not so much, but I love the idea enough to give him a pass.
  • The Flash: I already know this part is well cast (they introduced him last season Arrow).  I can't wait to see what they do with the show. It's going to be a blast and probably not as dark as Arrow.
  • Marry Me: I LOVE Casey Wilson.  I think she's awesome and will watch anything she's in.  Ken Marino is also awesome.  (If you haven't seen Wet Hot American Summer, go watch it right now.)  Fingers crossed this doesn't suck.
  • Mysteries of Laura: This show cheated - it premiered last Wednesday after the finale of America's Got Talent (Yay, Mat Franco!!).  I wasn't disappointed - I love cop shows and I adore Debra Messing and it was fun to see her in a different role that still took advantage of her comedic talents.  I'm a little wary of the "My about to be ex husband is my new boss" storyline, but Josh Lucas (who plays her husband) is an awesome actor, too.  Let's hope they handle it well and this show continues to be fun.

Who's on the Show?

So, this list is shows that I have little to no hope for them to be something I'll want to watch regularly, but that I WILL watch at least once since they feature an actor I adore. Below is a list of those actors so we know who to blame for these potentially terrible TV choices:
  • Madam Secretary: Tim Daly (loved him since Wings!)
  • Selfie: Karen Gillan (Amy Pond!!)
  • NCIS New Orleans: Scott Bakula (Do you need a reason to love Scott Bakula?  I mean, mine's Quantum Leap, but he's just wonderful)
  • Stalker: Dylan McDermott (I watched every episode of The Practice despite how horrible those people were and how much I disliked every other character - I think I can handle one episode of this show)
  • Bad Judge: Kate Walsh (Private Practice - ironically I did not like her on Gray's and then totally fell in love with her on her show. I want this new show to be good soooooo badly, but all signs point to no).

Stay Tuned

My list includes shows I watch less obsessively and new shows I'd like to see but am not dying to.  It will be really interesting to see which new shows make it and which don't.
